- Fredericksburg RevisitedI had the opportunity to attend a grand birthday party in Fredericksburg and the adventure never let up. The weekend included everything from fabulous dining, to great shopping finds, to gorgeous architecture and landscapes, and a lot of fine wine time. Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend. Dogologie Dogologie was one of the most curious pet stores I’ve visited. The inventory range was extraordinary. Best thing… You can go online and shop! Rooster painting
The art galleries! Be sure to wander down the side streets of Fredericksburg anytime you;re there. I was quite surprised at the quality of goods on the side streets. I was completely unaware of all the art the city had to offer. T-Shirt Kitschy clothing: there was a lot of country-themed stuff in Fredericksburg, but there was also a lot of nice clothing and housewares. While the shabby chic look was in full force, one can still find purchase worthy goods. Last but not least, Vaudeville. One place you simply must visit. Spectacular! Food, drink, shopping… all under one umbrella.
- Austin Monthly Magazine Must ReadsWhat a fantastic read this month, so much great news and info. I alway appreciate learning something new: http://luxuryeducationfoundation.org
- Always Impressed With Mexico’s FinestNot a border Mexican dress, but much, much more. http://www.alegreea.com
- A Man’s BoxI’ve always wondered about Gentleman’s Box. Recently GMA had a woman’s version in a feature and the women who ordered said the products did not feel like they were worthy of the price point. I may need to give it a try.

- Crappy Weather? Just Go Shopping!30 degrees, frozen expressways, sleet, freezing rain and flurries… Well, I just can’t stay inside and sulk about the weather. I’ll just turn on the heated seats and brave the elements. That’s just what we did! Just a quick jaunt to West 6th for a couple of furniture stores and art galleries. Favorites included: Fortney’s, Shabby Slips, Wally Workman Gallery, and Russell Collection Fine Art. Thrilled to see the artistic creations by my friend, Erik Wilson.
- No Helmet Needed In This Custom HouseA Custom Home did a great job renovating an abandoned motorcycle repair shop on Burnet Road in Midtown into a design studio. The decor was varied and certainly had the feel of a new space that is vying for a strong identity in Austin’s home furnishings market. There were a number of things I liked, particularly in their lighting fixture selections. The owners were eager, vibrant and ready to serve. They’ve got a tough road ahead as that’s a tough industry to crack, but I wish them the best of luck. Southern charm meets reinvented shabby chic. That’s my take. Pluses…. Very agreeable pricing. Minuses… I’ve seen a number of those things before (clear chairs).
